Sell Stock Music and Sound Effects on Your Own Site

Now you can turn any webpage into your own personal royalty free stock media store, complete with production music, sound effects and audio, stock footage, and stock photos, thanks to our brand new remote store widgets. While setting up your own remote store widget it super simple, we’ve put together a short tutorial of how to get up and running in a matter of minutes.

admin menuStep 1: Log in to your Productiontrax contributor account, and click on the “Remote Store Widget” link in the main menu bar on the left side of the page. Don’t have an account? Create one — it’s simple and it’s free. From there, click the link to create a new widget, or select one from your widget list if you already have one set up.

Step 2: Once you’re in the widget editor, add a catchy title and tag line using the editor options on the right hand side, and select the contributor logo image you want to use on your widget. As soon as you make changes, your changes will save, and the widget will update automatically.

search filtersWe’ve added some display filters to the widgets that make them uber-useful for any contributor. First, you’ll notice a menu that allows you to either show media from just your account or show media from all of Productiontrax. The former will come in useful for those wanting to sell just their own stock audio files, while the latter option is great for leveraging the entire Productiontrax royalty free library, essentially creating a complete copy of the library on your site. You’ll also notice that you can specify which kinds of media to display in your widget – either royalty free music, sound effects, stock photos, or stock footage. You can select one, all, none, or any combination in between.

When designing your widget, remember that you can create as many widgets as you like, and put them on as many websites as you like. So, you might want to create a separate widget for your stock music and sound effects (or one for each), one for your stock footage, and a separate one for your stock photos. Figure out if multiple stores works best for your media, and if so, set your filters accordingly.

darkhive skinStep 3: Select your colors and theme out your widget to match your website. In most cases, you’ll need to use our color pickers or you’ll have to know the hex color codes to match your website’s look. Our editor allows for both, and we have some pre-styled buttons to match. Here’s where you can take a little shortcut, and use one of our pre-set themes (check out the dark hive theme at right). Using these themes are what we like to call inline style overrides — so any changes you make to your widget’s colors will be changed at launch time when a visitor happens on your your site. To use a style override, just scroll to the bottom of the editor, and pick the style you like.

checkoutStep 4: Get your code and paste it in to your website’s HTML. We provide the code you need to display your widget on your website seamlessly. And it’s a single line of simple HTML. Simply copy and paste from the code box at the top of the editor (or from the selected inline style override panel at the bottom, if you’re using one of those. Then launch your website, and bask in the glory that is your remote store widget.

Some features to note:

All credit card processing AND file downloading is done via SSL right in the widget. Your visitor never leave your site for any part of a transaction. The widget is a fully-featured track preview, shopping cart, checkout and download tool. We recommend strongly that you use HTTPS on your site, and an HTTPS connection is required in the widget’s src attribute.
• The widget is stretchy horizonatlly. It will expand to fill the space if you change the widget’s width attribute in the HTML code. The widget will not change height at this time.
• As of this writing, video playback may not work on all browsers due to a browser security restriction. We’re working on this, but the widget plays video on most browsers to a barebones extent.

New Royalty Free Music Podcast Episode on iTunes

It’s that time of the month! A new episode of the Productiontrax.com New Royalty Free Music Podcast is online at iTunes. This episode features the newest (and we think some of the best) royalty free stock music posted to Productiontrax as of May 14, 2012. Here’s a run down of the music in this month’s episode:

We started off with the hard hitting Lunch Time by Vladimir Khokhlenkov, which worked great for an opening underscore, thanks to it’s high energy level, but unobtrusive vibe. We kept things rolling with a surfer rock track called The Wave Chasers, by Gary Wolk, followed by a pretty cool hip-hop background music track that would work in just about any kind of project, What’s Up? by Tony Lopez.

On the softer side, we explored the Jewish sounds of The Wailing Wall by David Hollandsworth, an emotional waltz featuring haunting piano and strings. My Guitar Is So Happy, by Benjamin Lindholm, is a quintiscential folk-pop guitar track that would make a great soundtrack for any television advertisement. It’s hip, fun, and accoustic — a great mix, and super usable. Fivestep, by Running Dog Music, is an ambient, yoga-like track, that features smooth, lush pads and very light percussion. Makes us want to meditate, or start stretching.

We start to pick up the energy at the end of the podcast, moving into Dawning and Sundown by Ruslan Minin, which features a medium tempo smooth jazz feel with an interesting use of asian pipes for the melody. Content and Happy by Tim Brown is a fun, upbeat, pop-rock bed that just screams corporate, presentation, and pop-culture advertising. But before you get to excited, spice things up with a little latin romance with Latin Lovely main by Alec Makinson — it’s a smooth latin jazz track that will make your heart melt.

Our last two picks for this podcast were Private Pool (Full Length Loop) by Score Weaver, a nice hip-hop infused nu-soul production track along the lines of SouLive, and Rules of Attraction by Tim Brown, which provided the perfect outro bed.

How will you use these royalty free stock music tracks in your next project?

We opened with Positive Times – Corporate Background (track ID 298305), which provides an upbeat, professional sounding intro and underscore for our opening dialogue. Duet Rag 2 by John Warye is a great royalty free dixieland rag music track, that we could see in a comedy sketch or some kind of old skool bank robery flick. Safari is a wonderful action and adventure stock music selection that captures the African Sahara mixed with elements of techno and epic orchestra.

We then switched gears to a guitar-heavy classic rock track by Space Taster called Detonator. Great track for anything needing a bit of an edge. Worlds Apart is an Indian-infused orchestral cue that combines traditional orhcestra with sitar and other south-asian elements by Abbas Premjee. If you need some authentic Afro-Cuban stock music, Train to Havana by Will Tang is a great live track that captures the essence of Latin-American music. But don’t get too comfortable, because Funktrondelic by Michael Norman will just blow your mind, combining psychadelic rock with classic funk and a bit of electronica to fill out this awesome royalty free funk soundtrack.

If you need something a bit more nostalgic, return to the 80s with April Anderson’s I’m So Glad, a female vocal pop tune that works well for so many kinds of projects, including commerical, feature film, and the requisite 80’s Montage. It will turn back time! Filling out the rest of the Productiontrax.com New Royalty Free Music Podcast on iTunes is a dramatic film music cue called From the Darkness, with chilling piano and dark undertones, perfect for any suspenseful scene, follwed by our lead-out of the month Radio Flyer, a hard hitting, high-energy Punk & Ska composition.

Contributor News: Productiontrax Partners with AmanaImages for Royalty Free Music Distribution in Japan

We’re pleased to announce that we have finalized our API integration with amanaimages to bring Productiontrax.com royalty free music and sound effects to the Japanese market. This is also the first step towards the release of our Global Distribution API that will allow for additional distribution and licensing of Productiontrax.com content worldwide and on other websites. This is a huge advancement for the Productiontrax.com service, and will result in and overall increase in sales for your tracks.

Amanaimages provides rights-managed and royalty free media in Japan, solely in their native Japanese language, to their huge customer base of hundreds of thousands of existing clients. Amanaimages is a reputable, well-known company that has been in the stock media business since the 1970s serving the Japanese market. This partnership allows Productiontrax contributors to enter into the international market with no additional work or effort whatsoever, without having to establish a foreign office or learn a new language.

Everything happens automatically, and it will be as if the sales are coming from Productiontrax.com the whole time. Under our agreement with amanaimages, you will receive your full License B asking price (minus the usual PT commission) as set on your contributor account for each track sold, under the same license terms as tracks licensed directly on Productiontrax.com. Amanaimages will report all sales directly to your contributor account via our new API system in realtime, and you will continue to receive royalty payments just like normal from PT. Our API will only release content downloads to amanaimages customers who have purchased a license and that purchase has been posted to your Productiontrax.com account. You’ll see these transactions on your PT sales reports like this:

Your Song Name (API Network) – License B.

How can you benefit the most from this new partnership? Upload more music and sounds to your PT account and make sure they are accurately tagged and categorized!

Stay tuned for more information about the Productiontrax.com API, which will be publicly available for developers to use later this year.
